Lisa Osbeck holds a PhD from Georgetown University in General Psychology, a program that focused on historical and conceptual problems of the discipline as a whole. While completing her dissertation on philosophical and psychological conceptions of intuition, Lisa resided in the UK and participated in qualitative analysis of clinical data with Jennifer Clegg (University of Nottingham). Lisa followed her doctoral work with a year as a Fellow at the Center for Philosophy of Science, University of Pittsburgh. She is currently Professor of Psychology at the University of West Georgia, where her major courses include History and Philosophy of Psychology and Theories of Personality. She collaborates closely with the Cognition and Learning in Interdisciplinary Cultures research group (CLIC) led by Nancy Nersessian and Wendy Newstetter at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which conducts ethnographic study of research laboratories. Lisa is the lead author of Science as Psychology: Sense-Making and Identity in Science Practice (Cambridge, 2011), which was co-winner of the William James Book Award from APA Division 1 for 2012. Lisa is a Fellow of APA and Council Representative for Division 24. She received the Sigmund Koch award for Early Career Contributions to Psychology in 2005 and the Theodore Sarbin award from Division 24 in 2012. She is on the editorial boards of Theory and Psychology, New Ideas in Psychology and Journal of Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology. Current projects include “Rational Intuition: Philosophical Roots, Scientific Investigations,” (contracted, Cambridge University Press), co-edited with Barbara Held.
